Standards of the past at the speed of the future

The actual traditional differences between copyediting service and proofreading service are as follows. A copy editor reads through a document and marks corrections—usually on a hard copy. Then someone—who might be either the original copy editor or an actual typesetter—keys the marked
corrections into the document's file in an electronic system. A second-round copy gets printed out, and a proofreader—who could also be the original copy editor—then gives proofreading service by comparing that second-round version physically against the first version to make sure that the keyer input every marked correction correctly and without either skipping marks or misinterpreting them. So actually, the proofreader is responsible for looking at two versions of the material at the same time. And because sometimes that second round results in a couple of lingering misinterpretations or remaining mistakes because the typesetter either overlooked, or mishandled, or just plain bungled
some of the corrections, someone usually has to reopen the file and do a few more tweaks.

If you choose EditAmerica to copyedit your document, to input the corrections, and to give
proofreading service for the resulting next round, then you can feel assured that the material
will have guaranteed-perfect editorial integrity and be fully ready for download, design,
composition, and printing
.
